gBETA Program Managers serve as the center of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in which they work - engaging with startup founders, mentors, investors and the community as a whole. They are responsible for:
- Recruiting local startups for two seven-week accelerator programs per year
- Managing the logistics and execution of the accelerator programs and helping the selected startups grow through applied mentorship, connections and support
- Engaging the community with startup resources year round
- Connecting gBETA alumni to a global network of support
We are looking for ambitious community advocates whose hunger to support entrepreneurs, connect with mentors and investors, and strengthen the startup ecosystem is never satiated. No need for applicants to come with existing startup experience; gBETA Program Managers have come from prior careers in journalism, academia, economic development, science, politics, law and nonprofits.
Responsibilities:
gener8tor is looking for a Program Manager to join our rapidly growing team as part of a dynamic collaboration between gener8tor and the Urban League of Greater Madison to run the Black Business Hub’s accelerator programs. The person in this position will be a community leader, connecting Black business owners in Madison with resources and empowering them to grow their companies. As a Program Manager, you’ll be enthusiastic about relationship building and communicating with diverse groups.
- Build relationships with all relevant stakeholders (new and experienced small business owners, community organizations and nonprofits, business mentors, investors, lenders/financial institutions, foundations, grant makers, corporate partners, public sector/government organizations, academic institutions) in Madison and nationally, especially those that the Urban League of Greater Madison (ULGM) has existing relationships with or desires relationships with.
- Over time, build and maintain relationships with ULGM program partners, and act as the point of contact between the ULGM and gener8tor.
- Co-create and host programming for small business owners in collaboration with the ULGM and gener8tor staff.
- Recruit, vet, and select startup participants for accelerator programs, ULGM grant and loan funds, and as prospective tenants for the Black Business Hub.
- Plan logistics and execute accelerator programs.
- Continuously support community business owners, program participants, program alumni and program partners.
- Disseminate relevant information on existing programs, grants and other funding, and mentorship available for small business owners in the ULGM network.
- Attend Black Business Hub events and participate in ULGM programming outside of gener8tor accelerator programs to become a ULGM team member.
- Work with the ULGM and the gener8tor team to facilitate additional programming and support outside of your individual programming.
- Maintain required records and track project success.
- Support your gener8tor teammates across multiple programs.
Requirements:
- Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and a self-starter.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly independent environment and juggle multiple ongoing projects, responsibilities and relationships.
- Willingness to intensively and rapidly dive into understanding the needs of gener8tor’s large and growing platform and the new ULGM Black Business Hub.
- Commitment to the missions of ULGM and gener8tor and to equity across race, place and gender.
- Flexibility to travel, work some nights and weekends.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- A “no job is beneath me” mentality.
- Experience in business development, banking or finance, or other entrepreneurial experience is a strong plus.
